Since the IXXth century Pinar del Río has litterally fascinated the Havana residents, for the natural beauties of Vueltabajo region, for the Portales Cave, but also for San Diego de los Baños, a famous site for its curative and spa waters; we must also indicate the Viñales Valley, with its unsuspected natural beauties. The Viñales Valley was declared world cultural inheritance by the UNESCO and, in fact, the valley is also considered an national monument. It's surrounded by various hills that contain several underground caves and rivers. In this zone, we can find the Los Jazmines and La Ermita hotels, and you can also admire the Cimarrones Palenque (the ranch of fugitive slaves), the Prehistory Mural, the Indian Cavern, the Aquatic Community, San Diego de los Baños and the city of Viñales. Pinar del Río is definitively a set of wonders. Furthermore, two of the four zones declared by UNESCO as biosphere heritage are near: the Rosario mountains (where are locaded Soroa and Las Terrazas hoteles), and the Guanahacabibes Peninsula. Flora and fauna are abundant in both places and with great variety of endemic species. Quiet and confortable hotels are built in the environs of some of the best sites of Pinar del Río. Pinar del Río is only 174 km far from Havana and both cities are connected with a good highway. The Pinar del Río city, capital of the homonymous province, was founded in 1774. The architecture of its historical centre is really eclectical and its low houses, lightly coloured, have a lot of charme.
